Open airway; infant vs child
Assessment: signs of life
- max 10s but then ongoing
- not required to fee central pulse
Rescue breaths; 5, 1 sec
- if no rise and fall, reposition, ?FB
- failure after 5 attempts move on to CPR
Chest compressions; 15:2 (if no signs of life)
- one finger above xiphisternum
- 1/3 AP diameter; 4/5cm deep
Continual assessment SoL
Assessing for cardiac arrest
Open airway
- neutral position < 1
- sniffing morning air > 1
- Hands on bony parts not soft - can occlude
- jaw thrust in trauma
Look for breathing
Check pulse
- femoral/ brachial <1
- femoral/carotid > 1
CPR if rate
- under 100 neonate
- under 80 < 1
- under 60 > 1
CPR - BVM
5 rescue breaths
- Over 1 sec
- if no movement reposition
- still no movement consider FB - check in mouth
Mouth to mouth
- under 1 over mouth and nose
BVM
- nose to chin
- not over eyes - can cause Brady
CPR - chest compressions
Compress 1/3 AP diameter
- 4/5cm
Rate 100-120
Full recoil
<1 = 2 finger or 2thumb
>1 = 1 or 2 heel of hand
Over 80% CPR should be compressions
CPR - mouth to mouth
Under 1
- breath over nose and mouth
- look for chest fall
Over 1
- hold nose, breath over mouth
- look for chest fall
