Q

You are alone with your child playing in the other room. As you walk in to the room you see your child laying on the ground and has cyanosis. What should you do first?

A

Check responsiveness, assess for normal breathing and pulse for no longer than 8 seconds, open the airway, immediately begin cpr 30:2, after 5 cycles of CPR (2 mins) Call EMS.

Q

You are attempting to rescue a person who has experienced drowning. What do you do if there are no signs of breathing?

A

Open the airway and administer rescue breaths.

17
Q

You notice someone showing all the signs of a severe allergic reaction. What is the first and most important action you should take?

A

Use the epinephrine device

18
Q

How does choking procedures change on somebody pregnant, obese, or an infant?

A

Instead of abdominal thrusts you use chest thrusts to try and expel the object.

19
Q

Your choking victim falls unconscious what’s the first you do?

A

Place the victim supine (on their back) and Immediately begin CPR on a flat and sturdy surface.

20
Q

What’s the most appropriate first step to take as soon as the AED arrives at the victims side?

A

Power on the AED

21
Q

What are the steps before EMS arrives after witnessing a victim collapse?

A
  1. Assess responsiveness (hey hey are you okay? Hit shoulders)
  2. Help!!! Call for help!
  3. Check vitals (pulse and breathing)
  4. If help arrived tell them “get a bag valve mask or pocket mask (if applicable), an AED, and call EMS (911)
  5. Immediately begin CPR 30:2
  6. Apply AED if possible.
  7. Rotate every 2mins (5 cycles) with somebody trained if possible.
  8. Repeat until EMS arrives. Follow AED instructions.
22
Q

Steps for AED use?

A
  1. Scene safe for AED use? (No water? Hazards?)
  2. Power on
  3. Listen to and follow verbal instructions
  4. Place the pads on the victims chest. Looking out for implanted device or possible contraindications. (Hair chest, pacemaker etc…) (If Adult AED is only one present for child victim place one on front and back). (Infants should get manual defibrillation so they can get the lowest setting or an AED equipped with a pediatric dose attenuator)
  5. Plug in pads to AED box.
  6. Clear everyone away from the victim and allow AED to analyze rhythm.
  7. “Shock advised?“
  8. If yes call out “clear” and press shock button.
  9. If No continue CPR for 2 minutes (5 cycles)
