blood vessels veins Flashcards
paired venous structure that collects blood from the brain, superficial regions of the face, and neck, and delivers it to the right atrium
internal jugular veins
major venous channel that drains the upper extremities (right and left arms)
subclavian veins
originate from the union of the subclavian vein with the internal jugular vein. The left and right join to form the superior vena cava on the right side of the upper chest
brachiocephalic veins
large vessel which ascscends upwards vertically, merging into right ventricle
superior vena cava
vein ascends through the axilla medial
axillary veins
descends from axillary vein on thumb side, spanning almost entire arm
cephalic veins
descends from axillary vein on pinky side, spanning almost entire arm
basilic veins
located in the cubital fossa, on the anterior/flexor aspect of the elbow joint
median cubital veins
carries blood away from the liver and into the inferior vena cava
hepatic vein
drains spleen
splenic vein
large vein descending from right atrium
inferior vena cava
drains kidneys
renal veins
drains reproductive organs, right one goes directly into inferior vena cava, left one bifurcates into left renal vein.
gonadal veins
where the union of the internal and external iliac veins meet. bifurcates inferior vena cava in lower abdomen
common iliac veins
joins with external iliac vein to form common iliac vein. barely visible on model
internal iliac veins
