Blood Vessels and Nerves of Abdominal GI Flashcards
Veins from every part of GI drain into portal vein except for?
in rectum and anal canal
What are the three areas of the intestines that are more vulnerable to ischemia due to being poorly developed with the marginal artery of Drummond?
- middle portion of ascending colon
- Griffith’s point-transition between midgut and hindgut
- Sudek’s point-rectosigmoid junction
What forms to portal vein?
joining of splenic v. and superior mesenteric v.
What are the four major groups of lymph nodes?
- celiac
- superior mesenteric
- inferior mesenteric
- para-aortic
Where do the lymph nodes drain to?
intestinal and right and left lumbar trunks which all drain into cisterna chyli
What is Troiser’s sign?
hard, enlarged supraclavicular lymph node, considered sign of metastatic abdomen malignancy
What is Sister Mary Joseph’s sign?
palpable lymph node in umbilical region, indicates metastasis of malignant cancer in region
What are the sympathetic nerves in the region?
preganglionic fibers from T5-L2, end on ganglia
postganlionic fibers end on enteric ganglia
inhibit secretion, peristalsis, cause sphincter contraction and cause vasoconstriction
What are the parasympathetic nerves in the region?
Preganglionic fibers of vagus from brainstem
Pelvic splanchnic nerves-end on enteric ganglion
Activate secretion, peristalsis, sphincter relaxation and cause vasodilation
