Blood vessels and hemodynamics Flashcards
Name the 5 types of blood vessels.
Arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules and veins.
What is the arteries function?
They carry blood away from the heart.
What is the arterioles function?
They regulate blood flow into capillaries by regulation resistance.
What is the capillaries function?
They control microcirculation and exchange vessels.
What is the venules function?
The recieve blood from the capillaries.
What is the veins function?
They carry blood back to the heart.
What is diffusion?
Substances move down their concentration gradient.
What is bulk flow?
A passive process in which a large numers of ions, molecules or particles in a fluid move together in the same direction.
What is transcytosis?
The vesicular transport of macromolecules from one side of a cell to the other, is a strategy used by multicellular organisms to selectively move material between two environments without altering the unique compositions of those environments.
