Blood Vessels Flashcards
Everything
What are the three types of blood vessels and what do they have in common
Arteries,capillaries,veins
They all carry blood tissue
Structure of arteries
Thick outer walls of connective tissue
Thick layer of muscles and elastic fibres
Small lumen
No valves are present
Functions of arteries
Carry blood away from heart
They are able to withstand high pressure created by heart
Structure of capillaries
They have very thin walls
Make up of one layer if endothelial tissue only
Function of capillaries
Connect arteries to veins
Allow substances to easily enter and leave the blood by diffusion since they have very thin walls
Structure of veins
Thin outer walls
Thin layer of muscles and elastic fibres
Large lumen
Valves are present
Function of veins
Carry blood back to heart
Valaves in veins or even back flow of blood
What is a capillary bed
Group of capillaries from an ateriole
