hereditary disorder- abnormal hemoglobin producing sickle shaped rbcs and hemolysis
thalassemia
inherited disorder of abnormal hemoglobin production -> hypochromia
pernicious anemia
lack of mature rbcs from inability to absorb b12 into bloodstream
hemochromatosis
excess iron deposits throughout body
polycythemia
general increase in rbcs
hemophilia
excessive bleeding from hereditary lack of factors VIII or IX needed for blood clotting
purpura
multiple pinpoint hemorrhages and accumulation of blood under skin
petechiae
small pinpoint purple or red spots on skin
ecchymoses
larger blue or purplish bruises
acute myeloid leukemia (AML)
immature granulocytes predominant
acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL)
immature lymphocytes predominant. most seen in kids
