Blood Supply Flashcards
Brachiocephalic
Turns into right subclavian
Branches off aorta
Brachiocephalic
Common carotid
Left subclavian
Subclavian veins
Turn into the vertebral arteries
Vertebral arteries
Come together at medulla pons junction to form the basilar artery
Post inferior cerebellum artery (PICA) branches off of vertebral arteries
Basilar artery
Runs from medulla pons junction up to midbrain
- ant inf cerebeller artery (AICA)
- superior cerebellar artery
- post cerebral artery
Posterior circulatory system
Subclavian, vertebral, basilar, AICA, PICA, SCA, PCA
Internal carotid
Comes off of common carotid and brachiocephalic
Goes up to free the anterior circulatory system
Branches:
-MCA
-ACA
Anterior communicating artery
Connects bilateral ACAs
Posterior communicating artery
Connects bilateral internal carotid and PCA
Circle of Willis
Formed by ACA, MCA, PCA, internal carotid, ant and post communicating arteries
Internal carotid (ICA) supplies
The inside part of the brain and a little of the top
ACA supplies
Top of brain and the leg part of te homunculus
MCA supplies
Outer surface of brain an basal ganglia
Head and trunk of homunculus
PCA
Supplies post brain and cerebellum
Expect vision and coordination deficits
