Blood pressure control & Tissue perfusion Flashcards
What is pulmonary oedema?
Collection of fluid in lungs - often caused by heart failure. When the heart is not able to pump efficiently, blood comes back up into vein that goes into lungs. As pressure increases –> fluid is pushed into air spaces.
What are the consequences of uncontrolled hypertension?
Stroke, LV hypertrophy, Hastened atherosclerosis, Vascular diseases
How does the baroreceptor reflex work?
Baroreceptors signal via afferent sensory input, so increased afferent sensory input means increased parasympathetic and decreased sympathetic effects.
What is orthostatic hypotension?
Low blood pressure when you stand up from sitting or lying down.
What are the different variations in leakiness of junctions between capillary cells?
1) Tight junctions = continuous - BBB (blood brain barrier)
2) Quite leaky = Fenestrated
2) V.leaky
What is oncotic pressure?
Pulls water into the circulatory system
What happens at arterial end?
High hydrostatic pressure but low oncotic pressure.
