  • “I’ll be taking your blood pressure, if you could just lift up your shirt. I’m just going to measure the cuff size, if it’s a perfect fit it should cover at least 40% of the circumference of your arm.”
  • “The cuff is too small/big for the patient, in a normal situation, I would change the cuff, however for the purpose of this exam I will use this cuff.”

  • “Before I take your blood pressure, I’ll be performing a palpatory systolic estimate which I will be slowly inflating the cuff until I can no longer feel your pulse. I will be then taking that result and adding 30mmhg.”
