what is blood pressure?
blood pressure the the pressure exerted by blood against the artery walls.
what is blood pressure measured in?
it is measured in millimetres of mercury (mm Hg)
what is systolic pressure?
(the top number) is the max pressure in the blood vessels as the heart pushed out the blood.
what is diastolic pressure?
(the bottom number) is the minimum pressure of the vessels when the heart relaxes between beats.
high blood pressure reading?
140/190 mm Hg or above.
low blood pressure reading?
90/60 mm Hg or lower.
risks of hypertension (high blood pressure) are?
heart disease, stoke, kidney disease, dementia, in many people there are no health risks and can indicate a healthy heart
possible causes of high blood pressure?
- lifestyle (smoking, drinking, drugs)
- diet (unhealthy diet, high salt intake)
- genetic inheritance
- lack of exercise
- being overweight
- stress
