What was a cauterisation?
The burning of blood vessels at the end of a wound.
What was a ligature?
When blood vessels were sealed using silk threads or metal clips.
What was a tourniquet?
A tourniquet or clamp was used to hold the wound closed by tightly constricting it.

Karl Landsteiner in 1900
Who performed the first successful transfusion using blood typing?
