What is heinz bodies associated with?

A

G6PD deficiency: it is the most common red cell enzyme defect. It is a x-linked recessive condition associated with increased red cell susceptibility to oxidative stress,

Haemolysis can be triggered by infection, drugs and broad beans.

Drugs include-ciprofloxacin, antimalarials-PRIMAQUINE, sulpa group- sulphonamides, sulphonylureas, sulfazalazine

Blood film also shows blister cells and bite.

Typical hx- neonatal jaundice, jaundice during illness, gallstones
