Blood compostion Flashcards
Plasma osmolarity is
300 mOsmol/L
Define osmotic pressure
the pressure necessary to prevent net movement of water (in osmosis )
Nomral plasma osmotic pressure
5540mmHg
Plasma osmotic pressure types
Crystalloid osmotic pressure and colloid
what is the Crystalloid osmotic pressure
it is the pressure generated by electrolyte mainly NaCl , this pressure control water distributibn betweeen inside and outside of cells . hence its improtant in manintaing fluid balance acroos cell membrane
colloid osmotic pressure what is it
it is the pressure generated by plasma proteins mainly (albumin) , this pressure control water distributibn betweeen inside and outside of blood capillaries , its normally about 25mmHg which is 0.5% of total osmotic pressure
