What is blood made up of?
A
plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets

What is plasma?
A
- pale yellow liquid found in blood
- made of water and allows blood to flow
- carries red and white blood cells
- carried food, minerals and hormones

What are red blood cells?
A
- carry oxygen and deliver it to parts of the body
- one drop of blood contains 200 million red blood cells

What are white blood cells?
A
- kill bacteria (germs) and other harmful substances
- attach themselves to bacteria, smothering it and eating it

What are platelets?
A
- parts of cells that help stop bleeding

What happens when your body is cut?
A
- platelets cause stringy fibers to form over the hole
- blood cells pile onto the fibres, forming a clot

A
a layer of mostly dried blood cells that keeps bacteria from entering the body
