6
Q

What are the safety concerns relating to smelt and green liquor?

A

they can cause chemical and thermal burns. Another major concern is that a smelt water reaction can occur.

Q

What must the operator do at the smelt dissolving tank to ensure on TDC green liquor density is indicating properly?

A

Rod out the density pots. this is done on each round.

Q

What is the back-up system for the smelt dissolving tank scrubber, and when should it be put in service?

A

The Demister. It should be put in service if the scrubber vent fan isn’t functioning properly and not able to pull gases /particulates out. The scrubber is better with just water than then the demister on water. Call Ray Perry

16
Q

Where is the shattering steam throttle valve located?

A

On the firing level near the bi-color meter.

17
Q

What effects does the green liquor sulfidity have on he boiler?

A

high or low sulfidity can cause the smelt to become very ropey. When this happens the shattering steam is unable to properly break up the smelt which can cause a smelt tank explosion.

18
Q

What are the operating procedures for the shattering steam station?

A

you make adjustments in 5psi increments at a time

19
Q

If the temperature of the spout return water is higher or lower the usual, what might be going on?

A

it may indicated a plugged spout which, in turn would cause heavy flow from the other spout.

20
Q

what if the spout water flow is lower than usual?

A

it could be a sign of a spout water jacket leak or leak in the piping

21
Q

What are possible causes of popping at the spout?

A

1.) the ductwork area could possible be plugged and causing condensate to form and reach the smelt. 2.)leak in your lance wash. 3.) hood wash. 4.)spout water jacket leak. 5.)tube leak

22
Q

what is the first thing you do when you hear popping at the spouts?

A

call panelboard operator and have him contact our feedwater operator to check for lost chemicals. also he can check the steam/water differentials.
