Block one Flashcards
state some of the main percentages to remember
50% - 1/2
25% - 1/4
10% - 1/10
66 2/3% - 2/3
33 1/3% - 1/3
What are the steps to solve Appreciation
- add your percentage onto 100 to give you your decimal e.g 1.043
- then times by however many years or months e.g (1.043) *6
- then times by your original value
(1.043)*6 x 125000
= £ 160,900
steps to solve depreciation
- take away your percentage from 100 to give you your decimal (0.92)
- then times by the power of years or months (0.92)3
Then times by the original value
(0.92)x 820 = 638
how to reverse a percentage change
e.g after a 5% pay rise, Laura is paid £1260 every month. How much was she paid before
105% = £1260
-divide by 150-
1% = £12
-times by 100-
100% = £1200
How do you add and subtract fractions
- change into a top heavy fraction
- time both fractions so that they have the same denominator
- and then add or subtract as usual
How do you multiply fractions
- Change mixed numbers to improper fractions first
- multiply the numerators by each other and the denominators by each other
- simplify
How do you divide fractions
- flip the second fraction
- simplify
- then multiply

How do you find scientific notations
- you just count the number of places the decimal has moved until you reach a number between 1-9 and then that will become your power
e.g 1080000000
= 1.08 x 10*9
how do you change small numbers into scientific notations
- you must count how many places the decimal has to move backwards until you reach a number between 1-9 then that will be your power
you power will be negitive
e.g 0.00012
= 1.2 x 10*-4
how do you convert between scientific notation and normal numbers
you must move the decimal place either backwards or forwards depending if the power is positive or negitive
e.g 3.1 x 10*5 = 310000
How do you round to significant figures
you must round up or down to the number of significant figures required e.g
987566 to 3.s.f
988000
