Block E Flashcards
What’s the structural difference between Gram + and Gram - bacteria
Gram - bacteria have the same 3 layers (cytoplasmic membrane, periplasmic space, peptidoglycan) plus 2 layers consisting of periplasmic space and an outer membrane
Describe the layers of an Archaea
inside a cytoplasmic membrane, outside semi rigid lattice of sugars, proteins and glycoproteins
What’s the name of the Archaea that has a requirement for high salt concentrations
Euryarchaeota
What’s the name of the Archaea that produces CH4 (methane)
Methanogenic Archaea
What’s the name of the Archaea that likes temperature
Thermoplasmatales
What’s the name of the Archaea that are obligate anaerobes and live in extreme temperatures
Crenarchaeota
What are 3 features that some archaea use to survive in much higher temperatures
-highly hydrophobic cores
-using DNA gyrase
-high levels of intracellular polyamines
