Block 2; Week 3 Flashcards
What does a loud abdominal bruit indicate?
Some sort of blockage. Could be renal artery stenosis.
What are the 2 types of renal artery stenosis & which patient populations are they usu seen in?
Fibromuscular RAS–>usu in younger ppl, easier to treat
Athersclerotic RAS–>usu in older ppl, harder to treat b/c goes to kidney disease!
T/F If you have a stent put in to solve RAS…you no longer need to be on anti-hypertensive meds.
False.
Usu you still need these meds.
What do unilateral & bilateral RAS lead to?
Unilateral RAS–>Renovascular HTN
Bilateral RAS–>Renal Failure
What do ACE inhibitors do to preload & afterload?
They decrease both. b/c they prevent vasoconstriction.
T/F Beta blockers inhibit renin release.
True.
What are 4 ways to measure RAS that are non-invasive?
Plasma Renin Activity
Renal vein renin measurements
Doppler Ultrasonography
Magnetic Resonance Angiography
