Block 1 Flashcards
Function: Cingulate Gyrus
Involved in emotional processing of pain
Contains a supplementary motor area where complex movements are planned and executed
Function: Insula
Receives information from viscera and contributes to the autonomic components of the pain response
Function: Cingulate Sulcus
Involved in initial stages of movement generation
Function: Precentral Gyrus
This is the primary motor cortex
Function: Left Inferior Frontal Gyrus
Broca’s area : Speech Production (motor aspect)
Function: Superior Temporal Gyrus
Wernicke’s area: Sensory area for speech, contains auditory association area (Speech comprehension)
Function: Uncus
Olfactory Cortex
Function: Postcentral Gyrus
This is the primary somatosensory cortex
Function: Calcarine Sulcus
The Primary Visual Cortex surrounds this sulcus
Function: Thalamus
Processes and relays information between sensory or motor systems to cerebral cortex
Function: Hypothalamus
Regulates the endocrine system by influencing secretion of the pituitary gland; involved with the ANS
Function: Pineal Body (Pineal Gland)
It secretes melatonin (Sleep/Wake regulation)
Function: Midbrain; Tectum; Superior Colliculi
Visual system relay and reflex
Function: Midbrain; Tectum; Inferior Colliculi
Auditory system relay and reflex
Function: Medulla; Pyramids
these are isilateral fiber tracts carrying motor information from the primary motor cortex (precentral gyrus) en route to the spinal cord
