Bivariate Tables & Chi-Square Flashcards
Define: Nonparametric
Requires no assumption at all about
the shape of the population or sampling distribution.
How is Chi-Squared Computed?
From Bivariate Tables
What are Bivariate Tables?
Tables that display the scores of cases on two different variables at the same time.
In the context of the Chi-Squared test, explain Independence.
Independence refers to the relationship between
the variables, not between the samples.
What is The Null Hypothesis for a Chi-Square Test?
That The Variables are Independent.
Define: Random Chance
The odds of one result are the same as the odds for another result. One result doesn’t effect the chance of another event happening. 50%/50%.
Define: Expected Frequencies & Observed Frequencies
When one computes the Cell Frequencies that they would expect to find if only random chance were operating
Define: Row Marginal
The total number of cases in the row.
Define: The Column Marginal
The total number of cases in the table.
What are Observed Frequencies?
The total number of cases observed in a sample.
Define: Positively Skewed
When the tail on the right side of the distribution is longer or fatter.
The mean and median will be greater than the mode.
The Degrees of Free of a table with 2 Rows and 2 Columns will alwaybs be…
