Bits & bobs Flashcards
Spherical Ametropia
A distance object forms a point image which is NOT on the retina
Myopia
A refractive condition where a distance object is focussed in front of the retina due to the eyeball being too long or too short
Vertex distance
The distance from the back plane of the spectacles to the apex of the cornea
Which motor nerve causes the ciliary muscle to contract?
Parasympathetic division of the oculomotor nerve
Type of drug used to prevent accommodation when refracting young children with hypermetropia
Cycloplegic
Cycloplegic refraction
Finds the total hypermetropia
Rapidly progressive myopia (Juvenille Stress)
Condition in which myopia is progressing/increasing rapidly, due to an increase in axial length. Could be due to prolonged accommodation.
Grades of Binocular Vision
*Simultaneous Perception
(lowest)
*Fusion
*Stereopsis (highest)
Advantages of non-contact tonometry
*No anaesthesia required
*No risk of corneal damage
*No risk of cross-infection
*Quicker
*Can be performed by support
staff
Why might a child be recommended to wear a patch over one eye?
*To treat amblyopia
*Occlude eye with better VA to
force amblyopic eye to work
*Can improve VA in eye with
lower VA
