Births, Deaths And Populations (own) Flashcards
Define general fertility rate:
Number of live births per thousand females aged 15-44
Define the total period fertility rate:
Average number of children born to a hypothetical woman in her lifetime.
Describe a use of the general fertility rate:
Used for comparing fertility of populations
Describe a use of crude birth rate
For describing the impact of births on the size of the population
Describe a use for the total period fertility rate:
For comparing fertility without being affected by the age sex structure of a population
What is fecundity?
The physical ability to give birth
What is the crude death rate?
Number of deaths per thousand of the population
What is the age specific death rate?
The number of deaths per thousand within a age group.
What is a standardised mortality ratio?
Compares the obsevered number of deaths with the expected number if the age sex ratio of a population was identical, adjusts for different age sex distributions within a population.
What are the three key uses of health information?
Identify health and healthcare needs, monitor trends in disease and monitor performance in healthcare.
What two factors can affect the fecundity of a population?
A changing rate of sterilisation and hysterectomies
Define crude birth rate:
Number of live births per thousand of the population.
