Birth Flashcards
What is the name of the story, what is the premise?
The story’s name is Birth, it’s a excerpt taken from the story ‘The Citadel’ written by A.J.Cronin. It narrates a small adventure of Dr.Andrew of Blaenelly, who had just began his medical practice.
Do you think Dr.Andrew was disappointed to see Moe Joe Morgan?
No, the doctor definitely was not disappointed to see Joe as in nature of a doctor. It was just that he had a commotion with his girlfriend Christine earlier and as assuming, a hard day of work must have made him feeling very lethargic under the night sky. Thus, the feelings of being dull and listless.
Why do you think Joe Morgan didn’t enter the house with Dr.Andrew? Was he scared? Of what?
How do you think Joe Morgan must have felt when Dr.Andrew asserted that his wife and newborn was just alright?
Why do you think the old woman was nervous about Dr.Andrew leaving? What did Dr.Andrew do in reply to that?
What can you tell about his character from this information?
The old woman was nervous about Dr.Andrew leaving as it was a critical time for her daughter. It may have been that if Dr.Andrew left, suppose for a hour and if he was needed, he might be late and things may take the wrong turn. She even offered Dr.Andrew tea when she saw that he affirmed how it would take time for Joe Morgan’s wife to deliver yet as an effort to hold him there only.
Dr.Andrew assisted the old women with her thoughts immediately and told her that he would not leave until the delivery has been done.
This goes to show that Dr.Andrew is may look and dull or lethargic but is not at all a inconsiderate person. He realises the feelings of others and works towards it. He in profession, is the ideal doctor.
Why was Dr.Andrew so bothered that night, even before the operation he had to take on.
