Birmingham’s is located central to the country and it has excellent link to London because of the roads and the train links and the airport
Why did Birmingham grow as a city?
Birmingham grew as a city because of the industrial revolution. Birmingham had many factories that helped it grow into a city.
Urbanisation of Birmingham
Birmingham had ans industrial revolution that meant many factories opened in the late 18th and early 19th century. This meant it needed good trade links with the rest of the country and labour. Therefore, many of the workers moved into Birmingham and so did their families making Birmingham a big urban city.
Challenges facing Birmingham?
Urban Decline, Birmingham has faced urban decline in recent years as heavy competition from manufacturing industries abroad. This means that many workers move out of Birmingham to get work. Brownfield sites have also grown in Birmingham because of derelict and abandoned factories.There is also high unemployment due to factories moving away or closing. There is also air and atmospheric pollution because of the amount of factories.

Birmingham has ethnic and cultural diversity making it one of the world’s most diverse cities.

Birmingham has a huge manufacturing industry even though because of the decline and also has a bullring shopping centre which many tourist visit
Enviromental Impacts in Birmingham?
canals in Birmingham have been cleaned up. The towpaths have been upgraded to encourage people to walk and cycle along the canals in the city. The Eastside City Park is a new park developed to increase the amount of green space. To reduce pollution, traffic has been managed by creating a park and ride scheme, encouraging the use of buses and the Birmingham Metro tramline.
