A

There used to be lots of vehicle and metal manufacturing, but now there are lots of knowledge-intensive jobs in the tertiary sector.

What was Brindley Place like?

A

In 1800 it was the hub of the Industrial Revolution in Britain. Materials were shipped on the canals as there were few raw materials in Birmingham. By the 1960s, road and railway were a quicker way of transportation and canals stopped being used.

What is Brindley Place like now?

A

It has shops, bars, resturants, etc. It also has the National Sea Life Centre, Royal Bank of Scotland and more. Places like the NIA are nearby and easily accessible within a walking distance of the main tram, buses or trains. There is a range of jobs available and lots of tourists are drawn to the area.

What features are on BedZED?

A

Moss on the roof: stores water for flushing toilets so, therefore, gets recycled. Large windows: allows a lot of sunlight to come through, which is natural light. Offices within the building: people don’t have to travel to work.
