Localisation

- can’t generalise - oversimplified and lacks validity

Ways to Investigate the brain
+ EEG , good temporal resolution, real time (accurate)
- EEG, can’t detect activity in superficial regions
+fMRI, spatial resolution, differentiate between regions
- fMRI, lag between real time and image
Hemispheric Lateralisation/ split brain
+ normal brains PET scanned, RH more active, finer detail LH more dominant
- hard to establish causal relationship, neurotypical control group
(not epileptic), differences may be due to epilepsy
Plasticity
+ real world app, neurohabilitation, new therapies, affected arm unaffected arm restrained
- small samples, 5ppts, no control
Infradian rhythms
+ evoluntionary basis, ancestors preg at same time, adaptive if mother dies others have breastmilk

Circadian rhythms
+ app to shift work, lapse of concentration 6am, more accidents, economic impact
- correlational, high divorce rate, missed family events, not biological?
Ultradian rhythms
- individual sleep differences
+ age related sleep change, old-less SWS improved with meds, increase relaxation
Endogenous pacemakers & exogenous zeitgebers
- endo can’t be studied in isolation, effected by exo
- exo case study, blind abnormal cycle (24.9hr), can’t adjust despite social cues
