Biosph Flashcards
Abiotic factors
Non living parts and properties of the environment that affect living organisms
Soil. Water. Sun. Rock. Air
Biotic factors
The living (or once living) Parts and properties of the environment that affect living organisms
Tree. Grass. Animals. Fish. Insects
Organism/individual
Am individual life form
One
Population
A group of the same organisms in a given area
Community
All the populations in a certain area that interact
Ecosystem
All the living and not living things that interact in an area
Biome
A group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms
Biosphere
The portion of the planet that contains life
Biodiversity
The number and variety of different species in a given area
Habitat
The place where an organism lives
Microhabitat
A very small specialize habitat with in a larger habitat examples a clump of grass a space between rocks a fallen log
Eco-region
A subset of a Biome with similar climates and organisms
examples coastal Plains
mountains and
basins Great Plains
Climatograph
A graph used to show the precipitation and temperature of a region
List the five biotic factors
Tree grass animals fish insects
List the five abiotic factors
Soil water sun rock air
Biome versus ecosystem
A biome Is a group of ecosystems with similar climates and organisms and ecosystem is all of the living in nonliving things that interact in an area what is the difference and why can one Byam have two different ecosystems and I a group of ecosystems make up the different biomes
Within Biomes and ecosystems how are the organism similar
Biomes have similar amounts of rainfall and temperature the adaptations that organisms have are depending on where they live examples desert biomes have a lack of rainfall less than 6 cm a year organisms living in the desert need to have a way to protect water cacti have spikes to prevent animals from eating them camels have leather like tongues that protect the camel from the specs of the cactus
Biosphere the part of the earth that contains all ecosystems
