What is the BIOS
A
The BIOS is a small program located on the motherboard in a bios chip which is usually a flash memory .

What does the BIOS contain
A
It contains the hardware settings of the computer and a set of instructions to begin the boot up process

What are the steps that the BIOS takes
A
- Power supply becomes stable.
- Sends reset signal to CPU.
- CPU executes jump command. which the hardware signal points to
- Points to starting address of the BIOS start up program.
- Power on self test.
- Checks if BIOS is corrupted, processor, system memory, video display memory
- BIOS looks for OS
- Checks DVD, USB, Hard disk
- Checks boot sector containing master boot record showing how the hard disk is partitioned
