Biopsychology- Neurotransmitters Flashcards
1
Q
What is an excitatory neurotransmitters?
A
A neurotransmitter that increases the likelihood of a new action potential forming in the post synaptic cell.
Makes charge more :)
2
Q
What is an inhibitory neurotransmitter?
A
Decrease the likelihood of a new action potential forming in the post synaptic cell.
Makes charge more :(
3
Q
What is summation?
A
Combined effect of excitiatory and inhibitory neurotransmitter on the post synaptic cell.
If a threshold is reached, then a new action potential will form in the post synaptic cell
4
Q
What does undirectional mean?
A
Information can only be passed in one direction between neurones due to synapse structure
