Biopsychology: Fight Or Flight Flashcards
What happens to cause a fight or flight response
1) we receive a stressor that causes fear/ stress
2) Hypothalamus goes into overdrive and releases hormones
3) that trigger the sympathetic branch of the autonomic peripheral nervous system
3) The adrenal medulla releases Adrenalin and Noradrenaline which triggers a change of physiological changes to prepare us
Role of Adrenalin
1) Increased old flow to the brain, which helps to to think and strategise
2) Vasoconstriction: blood vessels constrict which cause our blood pressure to increase
3) Blood is directed to our working muscles, this increases the supply of oxygen to our muscle cells so that w so we can run away
4) Directed away from the digestive system and defence mechanism (fighting disease)
5) Increased respiration
Role of noradrenaline
1) It is released in the brain and has psychological effects
eg. Focused attention
