Biophysical- Term 2 Flashcards
What are the benefits of a warm up?
Increase of oxygen to the working muscles. Increased blood flow to the muscles.
What should a cool down/warm down consist of?
Light jog/walk, and then 5-10 minutes of static stretching.
What are the benefits of a cool down/warm down?
Removes lactic acid from the muscles, allows heart rate to return to its resting rate.
What is your maximum heart rate and how do you find it?
Maximum heart rate is the maximum heart rate a person can reach. To find your maximum heart rate, use the formula (220- your age).
What are the three most important things in maintains your balance?
Centre of Gravity, Base of Support and Line of Gravity.
What is the Line of Gravity?
The Line of Gravity is an imaginary vertical line that passes through the centre of gravity.
What is the Centre of Gravity?
The Centre of Gravity is the centre point of a body’s mass, the point where all parts are equally balanced.
What is the Base of Support?
The Base of Support is the area within the body’s points of contact with the ground.
When is a body balanced?
A body is balanced when the Line of Gravity falls within the Base of Support.
What are the three main factors that affect a projectile?
Speed of Release, Angle of Release and Height of release.
What is the optimal angle for maximum distance when throwing a projectile?
The optimal angle is 45 degrees.
What are some factors to consider when launching a projectile?
Gravity, wind resistance and mass.
What exercise system is used for only very short durations (up to 10 seconds)?
ATP-CP System. The ATP-CP System is anaerobic which means it does not use oxygen. A 100 metre sprint would be a common exercise used with the ATP-CP system.
Which exercise system is used for an average duration of 2 minutes or less?
The Lactic Acid system. This system can lead to sore muscles and fatigue and an example of a duration that this system works is a 400 metre sprint.
Which exercise system would be the best to use after 5 minutes of exercise?
The Aerobic system. This system is used in endurance sports like marathon running and is the opposite of the ATP-CP system as it requires oxygen.
