Biophysical Interactions Flashcards
Troposphere
All weather processes
Stratosphere
10-15km above the earth’s surface
Mesosphere
80km above the earth’s surface
Thermosphere
Where the atmosphere becomes thinner
Insolation
Controls climate, weather patters and the water cyle
Factors effecting insolation
Distance from the sun, latitude, length of day and night
Albedo
The ratio between incoming radiation ad amount reflected back into places
Example: High albedo
Snow, ice
Example: Low albedo
Soil, oceans
Greenhouse effect
The gases that get trapped in the atmosphere to maintain a moderate temperature
Coriolis effect
Winds that flow directly from the poles to the equator however due to the tilt of the earth, winds slant in different directions
Climate
Calculated by the average of winds, precipitation and temperature
Weather
The specific forecast for the climate daily
Factors affecting climate
Topography, variation of incoming insolation, the revolution of the earth
Hydrosphere
All water on earth in all its forms
