Bionics Flashcards
what is arrhythmia ?
irregular heart rhythm
two types of arrhythmia
Bradycardia- too slow
Tackycardia- toofast
what is SA node ?
the hearts natural pacemaker- sends out regular electrical impulses from the top chamber (the atrium) causing it to contract and pump blood in to the bottom chamber (ventriccle)
how many chambers does the heart have ?
4- top = atria
bottom= ventricles
AV node ?
the electrical impulses pass through the ventricle through a form of ‘junction box’ = AV node
left side of heart pumps blood where ?
to body (from lungs), oxygenated
right side of heart pumps blood where ?
to lungs (to pickup oxygen), deoxygenated
P on ECG (electrical activity of the heart) wave
contraction of hearts atria
P-Q on ECG(electrical activity of the heart) wave
signal from SA node spreads across left and right atrium
Q on ECG(electrical activity of the heart) wave
signal divides into ventricles via septum
R on ECG (electrical activity of the heart)wave
contraction of your hearts left ventricle
S on ECG(electrical activity of the heart) wave
contraction of right ventrricle
T on ECG (electrical activity of the heart)wave
hearts ventricles relaxing
What do the 2 atria collect ?
the blood
Ventricles pump ?
blood out of the heart
what do the valves prevent ?
from the blood flowing backwards
what does the septum separate ?
the 2 sides of the heart
vein carries blood
to the heart
artery carries blood
away from the heart
lungs =
respiratory system/ pulmonary
sound(vibration of particles) requires a medium ?
air, water, any matter
the 5 main parts to a bionic ear
- microphone: pick up speech (is behind ear is not implanted)
- speech processor: selects and arranges sound (codes sounds into an electrical signal > transmitter)
- transmitter: receives signals through skin to > receiver signals are transmitted as radio waves
- receiver: signals to electrical pulses
- electrodes:collects impulses from stimulator > brain via auditory nerve >electrodes inserted into cochlea
auditory nerve ?
hearing nerve
cochlear implant is or is not inserted ?
is implanted
