Biomes & Biodiversity Flashcards
What is an ecosystem made up of?
Habitat + community
What is a habitat?
A habitat is the physical place where an organism lives.
What is a community?
All various species living in a habitat.
What is population?
All the individuals of one kind or species in an ecosystem.
What are the 2 types of biomes?
Terrestrial biomes & aquatic biomes
What are the Examples of terestrial biomes?
- Tundra
- Rainforest
- Savanna
- Taiga
What are the Examples of aquatic biomes?
- Fresh water
- Marine
- Coral reef
- estuaries
What is biome?
Biomes is a complex community of plants and animals in a Region and climate.
What are abiotic factors?
Abiotic factors are factors which are not living but have an effect on living things
What are the examples of abiotic factors?
-Temperature
-Moisture
-Light humidity
-pH
-
What is a Biotic factor?
Biotic factor are living organisms that are part of an environment
What are the examples of biotic factors?
-Food availablity
-Disease
-Predator
-Competition
What will happen if a specie is removed from the food web?
If one specie is removed from the food web it may cause death of organisms that depend on it for food
What is biodiversity?
Biodiversity is the variety of life
What do we depend on biodiversity for?
-food
-fuel
-clothing
-building materials
-medicine
What are the human influences on biodiversity?
-habitat
-over harvesting
-pollution
-genetic pollution
Give examples of human influences and there effect.
(Deforestation
Over farming
Climate change
Over population )- causes many organisms to move to a new area or even die
What are the natural influences on biodiversity?
-Volcanoes
-Forest fires
-Earth quakes
-Tsunamis
Give me an example of natural influences and there effect.
(Toxic gas released)-causes habitat destruction
What are nutrients?
Nutrients are chemical which living things must acquire from their environment for cell processes.
What are the examples of nutrients?
Carbon & nitrogen
What is the nitrogen cycle an example of?
Nutrient cycle
What are decomposers?
Decomposers are microbes that use the dead as their food source to obtain energy.
What can plants and animals not live without?
Nitrogen
