Biomes Flashcards
Large group of tropical trees, with major amount of rainfall, and poisonous animals
Tropical rainforest
Carniforous or broad leafed forests that occur in temperate places and receive large amounts of rainfall
Temperate rainforest
The kinds of forests we have here at home
Temperate deciduous forest
Sometimes swampy carniferous forest found in places with high northern latitude
Taiga
Dry rolling planes, with little plant life
Savanna
Hot summers and cold winters, has different types of animals and plant life
Temperate grassland
Vegetation mostly consisting of tangled shrubs and thorny bushes
Chaparral
Barren area of land where little precipitation occurs, and living conditions are hostile
Desert
Tree growth is hindered by low temperatures and short growing seasons
Tundra
Disconnected from other bodies of water, so not all types of animals and plants can thrive there. Water sits still
Lakes and Ponds
Mostly adapted to moist humid conditions, water usually is disconnected from other sources, animals that live here are adapted to muddy non-moving water
Marsh and Swamps
Moving bodies of water that contain fish and other animals that can swim, found all over the place
Rivers
partially enclosed body of water formed where freshwater from rivers and streams flows into the ocean
Estuaries
located within the ocean but is separate from the ocean biome. It is located in a shallow, clear portion of the ocean in mostly tropical areas. Contain tropical fish and plants.
Coral Reefs
Largest of all the biomes and contains many different ecosystems and animals. Found in every ocean
Open Ocean
