Tropical rainforest
coniferous or broadleaf forest that receive a lot of rain
Temperate rainforest
broadleaf forests dominated by trees that lose their leaves. found in warm summers and mild winters
Temperate deciduous forest
swampy coniferous forest of high northern latitudes. between siberia and north america
Taiga
grassy plain in tropical and subtropical regions with few trees
Savannah
grasslands that include tropical savannahs.
Temperate grassland
vegetation consisting tangled shrubs and thorny bushes
Chaparral
hot, semiarid, coastal, and cold areas that have low rainfall
Desert
vast, flat, treeless arctic region. which subsoil is permanently frozen
Tundra
standing, slow moving bodies of water
Lakes and Ponds
shallow water where trees, grasses and reeds grow
Swamps and Marshes
large natural stream of water flowing in a channel to the sea, a lake, or another such stream
Rivers
the tidal mouth of a large river, where the tide meets the stream
Estuaries
a ridge of rock in the sea formed by the growth and deposit of coral
Coral reefs
water that is near the coast or on the continental shelf
Open ocean
area where sunlight penetrates all the way to the sediment and allows aquatic plants to grow
Littoral zone
the lowest level of a body of water such as an ocean or a lake
Benthic zone
non native to the ecosystem and causes harm to the ecosystem
Invasive species
a species of animal or plant that is seriously at risk of extinction
Endangered species
elatively sudden, global decrease in the diversity of life forms
Mass extinction
