A

A biome is a distinct geographical region with specific climate, vegetation, and animal life. It consists of a biological community that has formed in response to its physical environment and regional climate.

A

The biosphere, also known as the ecosphere, is the worldwide sum of all ecosystems. It is the region of the Earth where life can be found, including the soil, water, and air.

Where are global biomes located?

A
  • Deciduous forest biome: East, North America, Europe, Eastern Asia (30-60°N)
  • Tropical Rainforest biome: South America, West Africa, South East Asia (23.5°S/N)
  • Hot desert biome: North Africa, Australia, West Asia (between Tropic of Cancer and Capricorn around equator- 24°)
  • Coniferous forest (Taiga biome): North Asia, North, North America (50-60°N)

How do biomes differ?

A

Biomes differ in factors such as: temperature range, soil type, amount of light and water, precipitation and seasons. For example, hot desert biomes can reach extreme temperatures whilst dicideous forest biomes generally remain at a similar temperature.
