Biomedical Instrumentation Flashcards

1
Q

How does intrumentation in medicine work?

A

It i starts with a sensor, then oes to eelctronic instrumentation, signal processing, human/host system. inally it go to an actuator.

Q

What are some of the biomedical intrumentation components?

A

I could include electrode, probes, sensors(electrical, optical, chemical, mechanical), amplifiers, filters, microcontrolers, telemetry transceivers

telemetry transceivers-send and receive data over radio signals

Q

Does the scientific method require the use of intrumention to optain data? how?

A

Yes, firs the problem is identified, thed prior work is review, the hypothesis is state, experiments are performed, the data is analized and then is determined if further experiments are required or we can get to a final onlusion.

Q

what is an atuator in the measurement systems.

A

The actuator is an optional component of a mesurement system that provides feebakc to the subject. such as the pacemakers monitors

Q

when an instrument is active or passive?

A

An instrument is active when it directly produces the output , while is passive when it help to regulate the output magnitud of some external power source.

Q

what is the difference between null type and deflection type instruments?

A

Deflection type are the ones where the mesurement value corresponts to the one display but the sensor pointer, while null types instrument are the ones base on the deadweight gauge, where two weight are placed on a piston until the force reach an equilibrium with the fluid pressure where is the null point reached.

Q

What is the difference between analog and digital instruments?

A

Digital instruments gives an discrete output which can only take a finite number of values within a range, while the analig instrument varies continously, with an output that can have an infinite number of values within the mesuring range.

Q

what is the differene between indicating instruments and instrument with a signal output?

A

Indiating instruments require human intervention to read the mesurements ¿, they use an indiator to display the values mesures is commonly used in analog system, while signal intruments are uses in automati control syte, where the mesurement signal is proportional to a mesured quatity.

Q

What is the difference between accuracy and precission?

A

accuracy is how close our value is to the real mesurement, while prcision is how spread are the values obtained.

Q

what is tolerance and how is related to accuracy?

A

Tolerance is the maximun error that the expected values from a mesurement could fall, decribing it maximun deviation

Q

what is the range or span? what is linearity?

A

Range or span is a range of cvalues that includes the maximun and minimun that the measurement could take.
Linearity is a desired feacture that the output obtained and the real measurement should have

Q

What is sensitivity?

A

It measures the change of the output when it varies by some amount. The sensitivity correponds to the line slope. Divides the hange in the output and the change in the measurement.

Q

Treshold?

A

Threshold is the minimun range of values that the input of an instrument could take before the output became detectable, . Usually it is expresed by porcentages or absolute values.
