biomed Flashcards
What Is homeostasis
Steady state of the body
What is type 1 diabetes
an auto immune disorder that destroys own beta cells
What is type 2 diabetes
insulin can’t bind to receptor properly
Why do you get thirsty from having diabetes?
no insulin so there is a high blood glucose level which is a hypertonic solution which causes h20 to leave the cell and make it shrivel
diabetes process(type 1)
No insulin is produced so ur body processes blood glucose which makes beta cells to release insulin which binds to receptor.. Glut 4 appears and opens (semi permeable) into the cell
Insulin
Important protein (hormone) regulates the amount of glucose that enters a cell created by the pancreas
Long term effects
Heart disease vision loss kidney disease nerve dammage
Calorimetry
Process of measuring the amount if energy in food by measuring the increase in temp
Chemical bond
Holding atoms togather
Ionic bond
Electrons transfer or shift location
Molecules
Formed by covalent bonds
Polar covalent
Shared unequally
Solute
The substance dissolved (egg)
Solvent
Does the dossolving (solution)
Solution
Solute + solvent
Thirsty?
Cells shrivel up bc in hypertonic solution
What Is the monomer for carbohydrate?
Monosaccharide
What is the diner for carbs
Disaccharide
What is the polymer for carbs
Poly saccharine
Monomer for lipids
Fatty acid
Protien monomer
