Biomechanics Flashcards
Biomechanics
The study of the effect of force on human performance
Absolute power
Maximal force exerted in as short a time as possible without taking into account amount of muscle or body size
Absolute strength
Maximal force exerted against a resistance without taking into account amount of muscle or body size
Relative power
Maximal force exerted in as short time as possible in relation to body size
Relative strength
Maximal force exerted agains a resistance in relation to body size
Kinematics
Branch of biomechanics
Description of the motion of bodies (how they’re moving)
No consideration as to why
Translation
Moving in a straight line
No rotation
Curved line translation
curvilinear
Curved route taken when moving from one point to another
No rotation
Internal axis of rotation
Rotating about the same point which is located somewhere on the body
External axis of rotation
Rotating about an external object
General motion
Translation and rotation combined
Centre of gravity
Point in the body where all weight is concentrated
Linear kinematics
Describing the motion of a body
Velocity
Rate of change of displacement with respect to time
Change in displacement/time taken
Units = m.s-1
Acceleration
Rate of change of velocity with respect to time
Change in velocity/time taken for change
Units = m.s-2
