Biomechanics Flashcards
What is linear motion and give an example
Body moving in a straight or curved line
E.g
Throwing a chest pass in netball as body moves in straight line to the reicever
What is angular motion and give an example
Body moving around an axis of motion
E.g
Upper arm when bowling a ball on cricket
What is general motion and give an example
Combination of linear and angular motion
Eg.
Cyclist - knees rotate but the body moves in a straight line
What is an internal force and give an example
Force generated by action of muscles
E.g
The contraction of the quadriceps to extend leg when kicking a football
What is an external force and give an example
Force applied outside the body
E.g
Gravity keeping body on the ground
What is applied forces?
action of muscles to surface and objects
What is an isometric force?
Length of a muscle that doesn’t change
E.g gripping a racket
What is an isotonic force and give an example
Maximal - all out effort
Eg.
Throwing a javelin
Submaximal
Graduated muscle contraction to achieve contracted movement
Eg.
Set shot in volleyball
What is a reaction force and give an example
Any force is applied a similar force opposes it from outside the body
Eg.
Running along a track
What is reabsorption of force and give an example
Forces exerted by the body are absorbed through the joints
Eg.
Trampolining
What is the preparation phase of shooting a basketball?
Foot on same side as shooting hand, hand is placed slightly forward of the other foot and pointing towards basket
What is the action of a basketball shot
Preferred hand lifts the ball up past the face and into position from which the shot is made
What is the follow through of a basketball shot
Fingers in direction of basket
