Biomechanics Flashcards
What is momentum?
The amount of motion in an object
Momentum=mass x velocity
What is angular momentum?
the amount of motion and object rotating in a circle
What is inertia?
The body’s resistance to change in its state of motion
What is inertia dependent on?
The mass of the rotating object or body
Distance the weight is distributed from the axis rotation
When is Angela momentum conserved?
When the body is in flight
What is linear motion?
Motion in a straight line or curved path following a linear path
What is an angular motion?
Rotation, motion occurring around some form of axis
What is general motion?
Motion involving both linear and angular motion the most common form of motion
What is inertia?
The tendency of a body to resist change in its state of motion
What is a force?
A push or pull on a body that alters its state of motion
Force= mass x acceleration
What are the types of forces?
Internal and external
What is an internal force?
Force that comes from insult the body e.g. skeletal muscles
What is the external force?
Force that comes from outside the body e.g gravity and friction
What is the formula for weight?
Weight mass x gravity
What is a frictional force?
Contact between two surfaces that result in friction
what are examples of friction?
Ground and drag
When does drag occur
Occurs when an object moves through air or water
What is force summation?
You correct timing and sequencing of body segments and muscles through a range of motion
What is simultaneous force summation?
When multiple body parts are moved at the same time, e.g. when sprinting
What is sequential force summation?
Activation of body parts that are used in a sequence
what is an impulse
change in momentum
what is the formula for impulse
impulse= force x time
example of impulse absorbing force over period of time
high jump mat
what are factors affecting stability
base of support
Centre of gravity
Line of Centre of gravity
Body mass
Friction
what is the base of support
area of an object or person that is in contact with the ground
what is centre of gravity
point at which all parts of an object are balanced
what is line of centre of gravity
imaginary line which passes through objects centre of gravity
stability is increased when the line of gravity acts through the….
base of support
what is newtons first law of motion
An object will remain at rest in a state of constant motion unless acted upon by external force to change its State of motion.
What is acceleration?
The right of change of the velocity of an object
What is the three types of acceleration?
Positive
Zero
Negative
What is a Newton’s second law of motion?
The law of acceleration,
the rate of acceleration of our body is directly proportional to the four supplied to us and then the direction in which the force is applied
What is Newton’s third law?
For every reaction there is an echo and opposite reaction
What are the three parts of the lever?
Axis/fulcrum
Resistance (weight)
Force (effort)
How do you determine a first class lever?
The axis is in the middle
How do you determine a second class lever?
Resistance is in the middle
How do you determine a third class lever?
The force/effort is in the middle
