biomechanic defintions Flashcards
what is force
force is defined as a push or pull
what is inertia
inertia is defined as the tendency for a body to resist a change in its state of motion
what is friction
friction occurs when two surfaces come in contact with each other. Friction opposed the motion of an object.
what is momentum
momentum is the amount of motion of an object and its resistance to changing that motion
summation of momentum
any movement skill that involves multiple joints requires the summation of momentum from the beginning to the end of the skill.
SUMmation - to add
conservation of momentum
when an objects total momentum is the same before and after a collision. Momentum is not lost, but instead it is conserved (transferred) between the two objects.
impulse
impulse measures the change in momentum of a body / object
newtons three laws
- law of inertia
- law of acceleration
- law of action - reaction
newtons first law
‘a body will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force’
newtons second law
‘a force is applied to an object will produce a change in motion (acceleration) in the direction o the applied force that is directly proportion to the size of the force applied’
newtons third law
‘for every action there is an equal and opposite direction’
Angular momentum
angular momentum is a component of general motion which involves rotation around a central axis or a fixed point
Linear motion
Linear motion is the movement of a body along a straight or curved path where all body parts move in the sane direction and speed
