Biology Unit 5 Flashcards
Name the 4 chambers of the heart
Right Atrium, Right Ventricle, Left Atrium, Left Ventricle.
What is the function of the circulatory system?
The circulatory system is where the system delivers oxygen and nutrients to the cell and takes away waste products such as carbon dioxide.
Explain what happens when the blood is past through the lungs
When the blood is past through the lungs its pressure is reduced this is because the blood is returned to the heart to increase its pressure so that it can be circulated through the body as quickly and safely as possible.
What are the 3 types of blood vessels?
Arteries, Veins and Capillaries.
What do cells need to carry out respiration?
Glucose and Oxygen.
What waste products does the circulatory system produce?
Carbon Dioxide.
What is the pulmonary circulation?
Pulmonary circulation moves blood between heart and lungs.
What is the systemic circulation?
Systemic circulation moves blood between heart and the rest of the body.
Why do we need the circulatory loop to the lungs?
So that gas exchange may take place in the lungs.
Why is double circulation necessary?
When blood is passed through the lungs, pressure is reduced. High pressure is needed to circulate blood to the rest of the body to deliver substances quickly.
What is the definition of the vena cava?
Carries deoxygenated blood from the body to the heart.
What is the definition of the pulmonary vein?
Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs (mainly the right lung).
What is the definition of the pulmonary artery?
Carries deoxygenated blood to the lungs.
What is the definition of the aorta?
The main artery carrying blood to all the parts of the body.
What is the definition of the coronary artery?
To supply the cardiac muscle with its own supply of oxygen.
