- a basic molecule that can combine with other monomers to form polymers

A
- a collection of monomers combined at a molecular level
- for amino acids, peptides are molecules that bind them together to form polypeptides, or proteins

- nucleic acids = nucleotides
- carbohydrates = monosaccharides
- lipids = glycerol and fatty acids

- nucleic acids = DNA and RNA
- carbohydrates = polysaccharides
- lipids = diglycerides, polyglycerides*
- technically diglycerides and polyglycerides are not polymers as they are not bonded end to end as with other polymers
