Biology-Sensitivity Flashcards
life process
What is sensitivity?
Sensitivity is the abillity for all living orgnaisms to detect and respond to stimuli.
What is a stimuli
A stimuli is a change in the internal or external environment.
What is a response
A response is a change in activity as a result of stimuli
List 4 ways in wwhich sensitivity is important. With reason
- Finding mates
- Finding food
- Fleeing from danger
- Finding the right conditions to produce or attain food/ nutrittion
What are the two ways plants respond to stimuli
Nastic Movement and Tropism
What is phototropism
Phototropism is the ability for a a plant or anyother photosynthesizing organism to respond directionally to light.
Types of phototropism
Positive and Negavtive
What is the hormone that allows for cell elongation in plants?
Auxin
Where are auxins fused in plant?
The side that is away from the light
What is geotropism
Geotropism is the growth resposne of a plant due to the pull of gravity
Words to descibe Tropism
Slow, Irreversible, directional
What is Nastic Movement
Nastic Movement is the non-directional response to stimuli in plants
It is generally due to the chnage in pressure meaning loss of water from
Words to describe Nastic Movement
Non- directioanl, Fast, Generally reversible
List three funcctions of the skin
- Temperature Regualtion, sweating, vasodilation, vasoconstiction (homeostasis)
- Serves as a protective layer; cornified layer, keratin
- Plays a small role in excretion; sweating
