Biology Organelles/Specialization Flashcards
what does the Mitochondria do
it is the powerhouse of the cell
what does the Nucleus do
controls and regulates activities of the cell and carries information
what does the golgi body do
prepares proteins and lipids for places inside and outside the cell
what do lysosomes do
break down macromolecules into their constituent parts
what does the Nucleolus do
RNA (Ribonucleic acid)
what do the Ribosomes do
it is where protein synthesis takes place
what does Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum do
it produces proteins for the rest of the cell to function, and on a rough one it has ribosomes which are small, round organelles
what does Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum do
it carries out the metabolism of carbohydrates
what does a Microtubule do
(cytoskeleton) it gives shape to many cells
what does the Centrioles do
they provide the rigid, organized components that give shape to many cells
