Biology human interaction Flashcards
What are organisms?
Interdependent living things
How can feeding relationships be shown?
Through food chains/webs
What is a population?
A group of organisms of the same species
What is a community?
2 or more populations of organisms (different species)
What is a habitat?
the place where an organism lives
What is an ecosystem?
the interaction between the community and the abiotic (non-living) parts of their environment
What is a food web
many food chains together within one community
What do arrows show in food chains/webs
The direction of energy transfer
What is biodiversity?
the variety of all the different species in an ecosystem
What does high biodiversity mean
that an ecosystem is stable and that each species is not dependant on just one other species
What is random sampling
Used for investigating the number of organisms in a species, species diversity or percentage cover by placing quadrats at random coordinates
What is systematic sampling
used for investigating the effect of an abiotic factor by placing quadrats at regular intervals along a transect line
What are sampling techniques used for
measuring the biodiversity of a habitat by counting the abundance of different species
