Biology Exam Flashcards
what are the accesory organs?
gall bladder, pancreas and liver
What does the liver do?
Produces Bile which neutralises the acid inside the stomach.
What does the Gall bladder do?
Bladder for storage
Stores Bile which is released to small intestine.
What does the small intestine do?
Produces all the enzymes
It produces Protease, Amylase and Lipase
Absorbs digested food into the blood.
What does the pancreas do
Produces amylase and lipase and releases into small intestine
What does the stomach do
Muscular walls to pummel food
Protease:Pepsin
Hydrochloric acid kills bacteria
What does pepsin do?
Breaks down protein in the stomach.
Explain the Lock and Key model?
Active site is where the reaction happens. It fits on to the substance involed in a reaction
What does carbohydrase do
Breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars
Protease+ Protein=
Amino Acids
Lipase + Lipids=
Glycerol and fatty acids
What shape is DNA
Double helix
What is DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid contains coded information which puts organidm together. It is a polymer
What are the bases of dna
Adenine- Thymine
Guanine- Cytosine
What is the structure of a dna cell
Sugar phosphate backbone
Bases
Hydrogen Bonds
Nucleotide
